Kigali-Rwanda-officials from human rights organasation LIPRODHOR has been arrested today over the internal wrangles involving two factions one critical to the government and other is pro-government.

The two arrested are Daniel Uwimana arrested in Gisenyi, Rubavu district of western province and one Evariste Nsabayezu arrested in Kigali.

LIPRODHOR is a human rights organization in Rwanda, with French acronyms- Ligue Rwandaise pour la Promotion et la Defense des Droits de l'Homme

The duo are said to be a part of the faction critical to Rwanda government and were organizing a general assembly supposedly to take place on Sunday 23 Nov 2014 at St. Paul.

CSP Celestin Twahirwa, Police spokesman confirmed their arrest and said the pair was arrested on allegations of "possessing false documents" and could not give further information.

"It's too early to give you all information you want.  We are still investigating, and we shall give you information at the right time," Twahirwa added.

In August 2013, the leadership of the Rwandan League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights was ousted because of its independent stance. People believed to be favorable to the government took over the organization in what has become a typical state tactic to silence human rights defenders.
