Museveni to ask Kagame for war compensation

Hundreds of people in the sub-counties of Maziba, Buhara, Kamwezi, Kamuganguzi, Rubaya and Butanda that neighbour Rwanda lost their properties while others lost lives during the RPF war and have never been compensated.
President Museveni was yesterday responding to leaders from Maziba Sub-county, Kabale District, who claimed they have never been compensated by the Rwanda government for properties lost and their dead relatives.
This was during the commissioning of a pineapple wine processing factory in Maziba Sub-county constructed by the Uganda Industrial Research Institute.
“I will inform my brother Gen Paul Kagame about this issue of compensation and if he delays I will do it…Meanwhile the local leaders should make a list of the affected persons so that we can begin the process of compensating them,” Mr Museveni said.
The area Member of Parliament, Mr Wilfred Niwagaba, asked President Museveni to extent electricity to the constituency and tarmac the old Kabale road.
Mr Museveni asked Ugandans to fight poverty at household level, avoid contracting HIV/Aids and to always vote for the NRM party leaders for continued good leadership and service delivery.
He commended the executive director of Uganda Industrial Research Institute, Prof Charles Kwesiga, for setting up centres for value addition to agricultural products, saying such innovations would create jobs for unemployed Ugandans.
He asked parents to always provide food for their children in Universal Primary Education schools.
“Even God did not create the whole world in one day despite the fact that he had all the powers. Be patient everything shall be worked on. All you need is to vote NRM party into power always,” he said.

Claims for pay
During the 1990-1994 Rwanda civil war a rebel group comprising mainly Tutsi refugees residing in Uganda launched a war against the oppressive Hutu regime.
During the war many people residing in areas bordering Rwanda abandoned their homes due to shelling from the Rwandan government forces battling the rebels. The shells killed several people and destroyed properties.
Several houses in villages neigbouring the Rwandan border were used as armouries by the Rwandan rebels.
The Rwandan rebels also harvested crops from peoples’ gardens and slaughtered their livestock for food.
