  • African countries are  reporting few cases of coronavirus and they  do not say  how many people  have been tested.
  • They  have locked down the  whole country  while  the  few cases of the virus are being  found in urban areas.  This is affecting the livelihoods of people and the economic situation  of the rural areas. China and many countries are tackling the  pandemic without locking down the whole country.
  • In most  African  countries where  a few people have contracted the  virus, the vast majority of them have recovered. Few  deaths are reported.
  • The West has been  alarmed by the possibility  of  Africa failing to cope with the virus . But  there  are no signs that  the situation in Africa  will look the same as in Europe and US.
  • While the virus is a real threat to  humanity and nations' economies, Africa does not need to copy Europe  and America  to tackle the virus because Africa is  not America or Europe. The situation of the pandemic may be different  because of  many   differences between these Northern and Southern  regions. It is  time  for Africa and  world researchers  to tell the truth about  effects and status  of the virus in Africa and why   the  possibility of uncontrolled spread of the  pandemic may not happen as expected.
  • Some  African countries are now receiving funds to tackle the  effects  of the virus. But no one can tell how ordinal people , particularly the poor being locked down will benefit from  these funds.
