Suspected terrorists enter Uganda - Police

KAMPALA - The Police has issued a fresh terror alert in which all
security agencies and members of public have been asked to report any
suspicious people and particularly suspicious Land Cruiser vehicles.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told New Vision online that four
vehicles allegedly carrying terrorists are suspected to have sneaked
into the country using the Kenya-Uganda border.

Enanga said they received yet-to-be-verified information from a source
that the terrorists entered the country in the runup to the Uganda
Martyrs Day celebrations, which were marked on Tuesday.

He said suspected al-Shabaab terrorists were travelling in four Land
Cruisers, two of them camouflaging as UN vehicles with registration
numbers,
UN 105K and UN 105KP.

The other two vehicles were reportedly carrying Kenyan number plates,
including GKA 24A.
Police's Enanga said they are verifying information after failing to
find proof at any of the border posts which the vehicles may have used
to sneak into the country.

"We can't rule out the possibility that terrorists entered Uganda
because they may have used one of the illegal entry points on our
porous borders," he said.

He asked the public to report any suspicious Land Cruisers they may come across.

The issuing of this terror alert comes at the heels of a similar alert
from the US embassy asking American citizens in Uganda to avoid public
places.
