A message from the Angolan President and acting chairperson of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), José Eduardo dos Santos, was delivered Wednesday in Kigali, Rwanda, to his local counterpart, Paul Kagame.

The letter was delivered by Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Georges Chikoti, and contains decisions emerged from the mini-summit of the ICGLR held in Luanda on March 25, 2014.

The event was attended by the Heads of State of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos; DR Congo, Joseph Kabila; Rwanda, Paul Kagame; Uganda, Yoweri Museveni; Congo-Brazzaville, Denis Sassou Nguesso; and South Africa, Jacob Zuma, this last as a special guest.

Speaking to the press in Luanda, the Foreign Affairs minister, Georges Chikoti, said the engagement by the President and acting chairperson of the ICGLR expresses, clearly, the position of Angola to maintain constant dialogue and consensus among the countries of the region focused on the achievement of a common strategy.

According to him, this principle seeks to consolidate peace and stability, as well as promote the progress and prosperity in the Great Lakes Region.

Chikoti added that peace and security of States and peoples are guarantees of regional development.
