Malawi army soldier dead in DRC

The Malawi Defence (MDF) soldier, Staff Sergeant Aiden Belvine
Kamungu, who was serving with the International Intervention Brigade
(FIB) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has died.
Kamungu was serving as a Mortar man, according to MDF spokesperson
Lieutenant Colonel Francis Kakhuta Banda, died on Saturday.
Kakhuta-Banda said Staff Sergeant Kamungu had collapsed at around 2100
hours while getting ready to report for night duties.
"He was immediately rushed to Contingents Level One Hospital within
the camp where medical doctors tried to resuscitate him failed and
pronounced him dead," he said.
He said Kamungu was a courageous, hardworking and disciplined soldier.
"We greatly mourn the death of this brave soldier and his family has
been informed accordingly," he added.
According to Kakhuta-Banda, plans are underway to repatriate the
remains of the Kamungu.
Staff Sergeant Kamungu hailed from Nkombezi village, Traditional
Authority (T/A) Kanyenda in central district of Nkhotakota.
He joined MDF in April 1989 and is survived by a wife and two children.
