Meriam Yehya Ibrahim gave birth on Tuesday to a baby girl in her cell in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.
Ibrahim was ordered to renounce her Christianity by the court that delivered the sentence. After her refusal, the court ordered that her execution would be carried out when her newborn reaches 2 years of age.
She also has a 20 month-old son.
Ibrahim’s father was Muslim and her mother was Christian but she was raised as a Christian.
The court also sentenced her to 100 lashes for “committing adultery”. Ibrahim is married to a Christian man, but Sudanese law does not allow marriages between Muslims and non-Muslims. Such unions are considered adultery in the predominantly Muslim east African nation.
Her older child has been with her in the prison cell since she was first charged in February, according to reports.
